U.S.-Japan Workshop on Bioengineering and Information Science

UC San Diego and Osaka University will hold a symposium sponsored by JSPS.

Date and Venue:

Tue, September 10, 2019 , 8:30 AM- 7:00 PM PDT

UC San Diego Village 15th / Village Building 2

2202 Scholars Drive North

La Jolla, CA 92093

Objective:

Located in the center of San Diego’s innovation ecosystem, University of California San Diego (UC San Diego) is a flagship research-intensive institution in Southern California, with annual research funding exceeding $1 billion. UC San Diego has developed institutional partnerships with top-tier research universities in Japan, including Chiba University, Kobe University, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, Osaka University, The University of Tokyo, University of Tsukuba, Yokohama City University, Keio University, Waseda University, among others. In recent years, UC San Diego has actively responded to its partners’ emergent requests to implement a broader set of international initiatives.

It is in this context and under Osaka University’s new “Global Knowledge Partner” initiative that the two institutions have come to join hands to expand the scope of bilateral collaborations, which has focused on information science, energy and entrepreneurship in the past, to include new topics in other fields such as bioengineering and cybersecurity. The objective of the bilateral joint workshop is to provide select faculty members from both sides of the Pacific Ocean with an open forum to share their recent research results broadly with the audience and discuss how we might enhance international collaborations in the years to come. The articulation of collaborative research projects and methodology, including funding opportunities, is an anticipated outcome of the workshop.
