[Initial Report:Event]UC Berkeley, Center for Japanese Studies-JSPS SF Joint Symposium

On September 26th and 27th, the Center for Japanese Studies (CJS), the University of California(UC), Berkeley and JSPS San Francisco will hold a joint international symposium titled “Translating Japanese American Incarceration Camp Literature”.

Venue: University of California, Berkeley, Institute of East Asian Studies, IEAS Conference Room, 5th Floor( 2111 Bancroft Way, 550C Berkeley, CA 94720 ) 

  

This symposium brings together scholars based in Japan and the United States to discuss the past, present, and future of scholarly and community-based work to preserve and translate Japanese-language literature written during the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. The panelists will discuss earlier histories of efforts by researchers based in Japan and the United States to preserve and reprint literary journals produced in incarceration camps. Conversation will also turn to current efforts to translate literary journals published at the Tule Lake Segregation Center, including Tessaku [鉄柵, or Iron Fence ]. 

September 26 is open to the public, so please feel free to join us.
