Research in Japan (Mar 1) 事業説明会を開催しました

With the generous support of the UC San Diego Office of Research Affairs, nearly 25 researchers gathered at UC San Diego Jacobs Hall to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and make connections across departments.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages, including graduate students, postdocs and professors from UC San Diego and The Scripps Research Institute.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni and UC San Diego Professor Mark Ellisman, Department of Neurosciences, and The Scripps Research Institute Assistant Professor Keary M Engle, Department of Chemistry, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talks were the highlights of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Kaori Kanemaru, JSPS Fellow from Japan, UC San Diego Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Satoshi Kabasawa, President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Regional Director at Osaka University North American Center, for their participation in the short networking event following the session. Their participation added depth to the discussion as they were able to share viewpoints about the state of research in Japan and make connections that could lead to international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

JSPS San Francisco thanks all attendees, and will continue to hold regular fellowship information sessions.

【Event】Research in Japan (Mar 1) フェローシップ説明会のご案内

Dear Member of the UC San Diego Research Community,

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), in collaboration with the UC San Diego Office of Research Affairs, will host a lunch meeting about JSPS’s fellowship opportunities for those at UC San Diego interested to conduct research in Japan. The event consists of informational presentations by JSPS and talks by researchers who received the fellowships in the past. The talks will be followed by light, networking lunch.

Research in Japan (Feb 8) 事業説明会を開催しました

With the generous support of UC Davis Office of Global Affairs, over 30 researchers gathered at the conference room, UC Davis International Center to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and make inter-departmental connections.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including graduate students, postdocs and professors in economics, biology, computer science, anthropology, and mathmatics, among others.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni and UC Davis Assistant Professor Christoph Lossin, Department of Neurology, and UC Davis Professor John Bolander, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talk was a highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Kazuki Takahashi, JSPS Fellow from Japan, UC Davis Department of Animal Science, Assistant Professor Alex Ming Huang, NAIST-UC DAVIS International Collaborative Laboratory for Medical & Bio Informatics, and Satoshi Hattori, Vice President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Executive Director at Waseda USA, for their participation in the short networking event following the session. Their participation added depth to the discussion as they were able to share viewpoints about the state of research in Japan and make connections that could lead to international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

With the generous support of Stanford University’s Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center Japan Program, Stanford researchers gathered at the Philippines Conference Room, Encina Hall to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and make inter-departmental connections.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and professors in economics, civil and environmental engineering, biology, classics, and genetics, among others.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni and Stanford Professor Gregory Deierlein, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Stanford Assistant Professor Justin Gardner, Department of Psychology, and Stanford Professor Larry Leifer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talk was a highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Tomohiro Fujita, JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow from Japan, Stanford University Department of Physics, Yukako Komaki, JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow from Japan, Stanford University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Satoshi Hattori, Vice President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Executive Director at Waseda USA, for their participation in the short networking event following the session. On Friday, January 20 the Japan Program welcomes the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to the Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center for an information session regarding JSPS’ fully funded research fellowship opportunities for research in Japan. The information session is open to all Stanford last-semester doctoral students, postdocs, and professors.

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science offers fully funded fellowships to scholars with excellent records of research achievement for the purpose of conducting collaborative research, discussions, and opinion exchange with counterparts in Japan. The fellowships are intended to help advance the research activities of the fellows while promoting science and internationalization in Japan. JSPS San Francisco offers this session to Stanford Scholars interested in conducting collaborative research in Japan, in order to provide fellowship information and guidance. All fields of research are welcome.

AGU Fall Meetingでフェローシップ広報活動を行ないました

日 時: 2016年12月12日(月)~16日(金)

場 所: Moscone North, 730 Howard Street, San Francisco

 

JSPSサンフランシスコ研究連絡センターでは、12月12日~16日にかけて、サンフランシスコ市内で開催された米国地球物理学連合(AGU)秋季大会に参加し、JSPS国際交流事業の広報を行ないました。

AGU秋季大会は、アメリカ国内のみならず世界中から研究者が集まる、世界最大規模の地球物理学国際学会です。会期中を通して、述べ25,000人の参加がありました。対象分野は、陸から海洋、宇宙、環境、災害等、学際的で多岐に渡ります。今回は、昨年に引続き、日本地球惑星科学連合(JpGU)のご協力のもと、JpGUブースの一角にJSPSブースを設けました。

日本での研究活動に関心のある博士学生、ポスドク、教員など、アメリカのみならず様々な国からの研究者約270名がJSPSブースを訪れました。ブースでは、フェローシップ事業をはじめとした国際交流事業について、スタッフが紹介を行いました。

Research in Japan (Oct 27) 事業説明会を開催しました

With the generous help of the UC Berkeley Research Development Office, over 30 researchers gathered at the UC Berkeley SkyDeck to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and connect with fellow researchers.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and professors in physics, space sciences, computer science, as well as public health, environmental design, and psychology, among many others.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni John Harte, UC Berkeley Professor, Energy and Resources group, and Saidur Rahman Bakaul, UC Berkeley Postdoctoral Researcher, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talk was a highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Rai Koh, JSPS Postdoctoral Fellow from Japan, UC Berkeley Department of Physics, and Satoshi Kabasawa, President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Professor at Osaka University, for their participation in the short networking event following the session.
