Research in Japan @ University of California, Davis (November 27) 事業説明会を開催しました

JSPS San Francisco held a fellowship information and networking session at University of California, Davis (November 27). With the generous help of Jennie Konsella-Norene (Assistant Director, Global Professional Programs/Administrative Director, Mandela Washington Fellowship Global Affairs), participants came to learn about the JSPS’s fully-funded fellowships for research in Japan and to connect with fellow researchers.

The sessions drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and faculty members.

JSPS also thanks the member from the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA), Yoichi Aizawa (Executive Director, San Francisco Office, WASEDA USA) for introduction of Waseda university and participation in the short networking event following the session. Their participation added depth to the discussion as they were able to share viewpoints about the state of research in Japan and make connections that could lead to international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

 

JSPS San Francisco will continue to hold regular networking info sessions at universities around the Bay Area. All interested researchers are welcome to attend.

JSPS San Francisco held a fellowship information and networking session at the University of California, Irvine. With the generous help of Mary Frances Ypma-Wong (Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) Graduate Division, University of California, Irvine), participants came to learn about the JSPS’s fully-funded fellowships for research in Japan and to connect with fellow researchers.

The sessions drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and faculty members.

The JSPS appreciate alumni Suzanne A. Blum (Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of California, Irvine) for sharing her experience researching in Japan on a JSPS fellowship. Her talk was the highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through his first-hand experience.

With the generous help of Shannon Yu (Fellowships and Financial Services, UCLA) and Fuyuhiko Tamanoi(Department of Microbiology, Immunology, & Molecular Genetics, UCLA), participants came to learn about the JSPS’s fully-funded fellowships for research in Japan and to connect with fellow researchers.

JSPS also thanks the member from the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA), Kazuhiko Hasegawa (Regional Director, Osaka University North American Center for Academic initiatives) for introduction of Osaka university and participation in the short networking event following the session. Their participation added depth to the discussion as they were able to share viewpoints about the state of research in Japan and make connections that could lead to international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

With the generous help of Michelle Drapek (Assistant Director, Fellowships & Awards, Graduate School, University of Washington), participants came to learn about the JSPS’s fully-funded fellowships for research in Japan and to connect with fellow researchers.

The sessions drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and faculty members.

The JSPS appreciate alumni Steven W. Collins (Associate Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Division of Engineering and Mathematics, School of STEM, University of Washington) for sharing his experience researching in Japan on a JSPS fellowship. His talk was the highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through his first-hand experience.

With the generous help of George Sabo (Director of Global Initiatives, Division of Global Engagement, University of California, Santa Cruz), participants came to learn about the JSPS’s fully-funded fellowships for research in Japan and to connect with fellow researchers.

The sessions drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including late-term doctoral students, postdocs and faculty members.

The JSPS appreciate alumni Francis Nimmo (Professor, Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, UC Santa Cruz) and Yihsu Chen(Associate professor, Department of Technology Management, UC Santa Cruz) for sharing their experiences researching in Japan on a JSPS fellowship. Their talks were the highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experience.
The JSPS also thanks our guest from the Japanese University Network in Bay Area (JUNBA), Yoichi Aizawa (Executive Director, San Francisco Office, WASEDA USA) for his participation in the short networking event following the session. He shared his views on the state of research in Japan.

Research in Japan (Mar 1) 事業説明会を開催しました

With the generous support of the UC San Diego Office of Research Affairs, nearly 25 researchers gathered at UC San Diego Jacobs Hall to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and make connections across departments.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages, including graduate students, postdocs and professors from UC San Diego and The Scripps Research Institute.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni and UC San Diego Professor Mark Ellisman, Department of Neurosciences, and The Scripps Research Institute Assistant Professor Keary M Engle, Department of Chemistry, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talks were the highlights of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Kaori Kanemaru, JSPS Fellow from Japan, UC San Diego Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Satoshi Kabasawa, President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Regional Director at Osaka University North American Center, for their participation in the short networking event following the session. Their participation added depth to the discussion as they were able to share viewpoints about the state of research in Japan and make connections that could lead to international and interdisciplinary research collaborations.

【Event】Research in Japan (Mar 1) フェローシップ説明会のご案内

Dear Member of the UC San Diego Research Community,

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), in collaboration with the UC San Diego Office of Research Affairs, will host a lunch meeting about JSPS’s fellowship opportunities for those at UC San Diego interested to conduct research in Japan. The event consists of informational presentations by JSPS and talks by researchers who received the fellowships in the past. The talks will be followed by light, networking lunch.

Research in Japan (Feb 8) 事業説明会を開催しました

With the generous support of UC Davis Office of Global Affairs, over 30 researchers gathered at the conference room, UC Davis International Center to learn about fully-funded fellowships to Japan and make inter-departmental connections.

The session drew a variety of researchers at different career stages from different fields, including graduate students, postdocs and professors in economics, biology, computer science, anthropology, and mathmatics, among others.

JSPS would like to thank JSPS fellowship alumni and UC Davis Assistant Professor Christoph Lossin, Department of Neurology, and UC Davis Professor John Bolander, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, for sharing their experiences researching in Japan. Their talk was a highlight of the session, providing valuable insight through their first-hand experiences.

JSPS also thanks Kazuki Takahashi, JSPS Fellow from Japan, UC Davis Department of Animal Science, Assistant Professor Alex Ming Huang, NAIST-UC DAVIS International Collaborative Laboratory for Medical & Bio Informatics, and Satoshi Hattori, Vice President of the Japanese Universities Network of the Bay Area (JUNBA) and Executive Director at Waseda USA, for their participation in the short networking event following the session.
