  • Overview
    • The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) carries out programs that provide overseas researchers who have an excellent record of research achievements with an opportunity to conduct collaborative research, discussions, and opinion exchanges with researchers in Japan. These programs are intended to help advance the overseas researchers' research activities while promoting science and internationalization in Japan.
    • JSPS Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan consists of two options of Long-term and Short-term. Grantees are selected by going through the selection process following the submission of applications by a host researcher in Japan who wishes to invite a researcher from overseas via the head of his/her university or institution. The recruitment and selection for the Long-term program is announced and conducted once a year, and twice a year for the Short-term.

A person who has never engaged in research at universities etc. in Japan would be most preferable.

    • 1 to 12 months
  • Eligibility
    • Those who have previously been awarded a fellowship under the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for Research in Japan ([Standard], [Short-term] and [Pathway to University positions in japan]) are not eligible. This Short-term Fellowship is only awarded once per researcher.

■ Summer Program. If you are permanent resident of Canada, you can apply for the Summer Program only within 5 years (not 6 years) of receiving a PhD degree.

  • Outline
    • The JSPS Summer Program is implemented as a component of the JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship for Research in Japan. It provides opportunities for young pre- and post-doctoral researchers from North America and Europe to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutes over a period of two months during the summer.
